Today's Lila: Angada comes as envoy to Ravana’s assembly

Pramāṇa (Śāstra reference)

Valmiki Ramayana, Yuddha-kanda describes how, before the final destruction of Lanka, Lord Rama sends Angada, the son of Vali, as His envoy to Ravana. Angada enters the royal assembly fearlessly and delivers Rama’s message: Ravana should return Sita, seek peace, and avoid the ruin that comes from adharma. Surrounded by proud rakshasa chiefs, Angada stands firm in the court and speaks not for personal glory, but as the representative of dharma and the servant of Lord Rama.

Saṅkṣepa (short meaning)

This lila reveals the dignity of a true servant of the Lord. Angada does not enter Ravana’s court with hatred, weakness, or fear. He comes as a messenger, carrying the final merciful warning of Lord Rama. Ravana’s assembly is filled with power, wealth, weapons, and arrogance, yet Angada remains unmoved because he stands on the authority of the Lord. His planted foot becomes a sign that dharma cannot be shaken by pride. The lila teaches that real strength is not loud aggression, but faithful service to the Lord’s instruction, even in the center of opposition.

Lord Rama sends Angada to Ravana before the final battle as a last attempt to call him toward righteousness.

When a servant carries the Lord’s instruction faithfully, his strength comes from service, not ego.

Mercy comes before punishment

Lord Rama gives Ravana a final chance to choose dharma before the destruction of Lanka.

Pride rejects good counsel

Ravana’s fall begins not from lack of power, but from refusal to hear righteous instruction.

Dharma stands firm

What is rooted in the Lord’s will cannot be moved by fear, wealth, political force, or demonic arrogance.

Sevā today (practice for this day)

1. Chant for firmness in dharma

Chant one attentive round praying, “O Lord Rama, please let me stand firmly in Your service without pride or fear.”

2. Speak one truth gently

Today speak one necessary truth with respect, humility, and the intention to serve dharma.

3. Examine your resistance

Reflect on where pride makes you reject good counsel, and pray for the strength to hear sincerely.
