JAPA TIME — The Appearance Day of Śrīla Prabhupāda — Vyāsa-pūjā gratitude to ISKCON’s Founder-Ācārya

Pramāṇa (Śāstra reference)

The Vaiṣṇava calendar observes September 5, 2026 as Nandotsava and the Appearance Day of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda. His historical birth took place on Nandotsava, September 1, 1896, in Calcutta. The spiritual meaning of honouring the ācārya is grounded in śāstra. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 11.17.27 instructs the disciple to know the ācārya as the Lord’s representative and never regard him as an ordinary person. Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya 19.151 teaches that by the mercy of guru and Krishna a fortunate soul receives the seed of devotional service. Śrīla Prabhupāda carried his spiritual master’s instruction across the ocean, established ISKCON in New York in 1966, and made bhakti-śāstra, the Holy Name and devotional service accessible throughout the world. Tattva (essential teaching) — with śāstra

Guru is the transparent servant of Krishna

Honouring the ācārya does not replace Krishna; it honours Krishna’s mercy coming through His devoted servant.

Instruction is the heart of remembrance

The deepest celebration is to hear the Founder-Ācārya’s vāṇī and sincerely apply it.

The Holy Name is the center

Śrīla Prabhupāda’s mission brings people to hearing and chanting Hare Krishna in the association of devotees.

Gratitude should create cooperation

Love for the Founder-Ācārya should make devotees more humble, responsible and willing to serve together.

Sevā today (practice for this day)

1. Offer attentive japa

Chant at least one especially attentive round as a grateful offering to Śrīla Prabhupāda and pray to serve his mission without selfish motive.

2. Hear or read his words

Read one passage from Śrīla Prabhupāda’s books or hear one authentic lecture, then write down one instruction to apply.

3. Serve the devotees

Congratulate devotees, forgive one unnecessary disagreement and perform one practical act that strengthens cooperation in service.
